Dupont Calvados

This truly unique product represents the endeavour of five generations of the Dupont family.

In days gone by many farmers would make calvados to be kept and then sold when perhaps beef or cereal were not fetching a good price. It was a liquid asset that would increase in value with age until when times were hard it could be cashed in. The Dupont family were in many ways such farmers until the succession of Etienne Dupont in 1980 who improved the older orchards and planted a further ten hectares of small stem trees.

Today the domain has about 27 hectares of orchard with all the varieties required to make high quality award winning Pay D'age calvados. The Dupont family now joined by Jerome Dupont is a forward thinking domain with great depth of knowledge committed to producing the best calvados often at the expense of yield. Dupont believe great calvados starts with the best fruit and for that reason only fruit from there own carefully tended orchards is used in the production of Dupont cider and calvados.

Jerome tells me that you will not see cattle or sheep grazing under his trees and no pesticides are used in the family's orchards. By design Dupont are renowned for the fruity flavours associated with their calvados. The Dupont method of pressing is I believe unique and is designed to extract more body from the fruit. Jerome says the apple heritage of calvados should be apparent as it is that which sets it apart.

For me it's also the care and attention that producers like the Dupont family give in the production of every bottle that leaves the estate.
